In my travels as a DJ/KJ I have found that most karaoke junkies are fed up with KJ's that include themselves (as a singer) in every rotation. When I run my shows I exclude myself when my rotation runs over 8-10 singers. Let's face it fellow KJ's. Most of us are average singers and our patrons are at the venue for THEIR fun, not ours. We can go out to another KJ's show when we're in a singing mood, but when we're working we need to focus on our patrons. Another common complaint is the KJ not following the rotation and playing favorites with friends and better singers. My singers know their spot in the rotation every time because I never deviate from the order. I add new singers on at the end of the current rotation, but when the new rotation starts everyone knows their spot. This philosophy has brought me excellent feedback and helped build my patronage at my shows.
