If you love to sing... you've come to the right place!

Matt

Little advice for Saturday nights?

Hey, fellow karaoke enthusiasts!

I'm from northern VA, and I'm putting a party together for a friend in a few weeks in Richmond. I know NOTHING of the nightlife there, and he specifically wants to hit a good karaoke place. I've seen a few places, and will probably sample a few on a trip this weekend- what are some of the A-list karaoke spots on Saturday night? Factors would be wait time for singing/rotation, play list, diverse crowd, and decent voices! Any suggestions are appreciated!

Well, here's what I know for Richmond Saturday night karaoke - listed from www.richmond-karaoke.com - any venues I didn't list I haven't been to so I don't know what they're like.

Caddy's - Small, crowded, long rotation, 50/50 on singing abilities

Fantasy Island - Non-smoking, small, haven't been on a Saturday yet

Kegler's Lounge - Small, bad system, iffie crowd, bar is in a bowling alley

Liberty Valance - Good food, mostly country singers

Murphy's Law II - Both times I've been here for karaoke Saturday nights it's been a sing along to a CD, no monitor/screen, no lyrics - any other night karaoke is real karaoke here

Sideline Cafe - Good atmosphere, decent songlist, last time I went there was a band playing, so call first

Wild Rose Cafe - Great selection, great sound, some nights the rotation is short - just depends

Good luck finding a spot - unfortunately there's not much karaoke on the weekends in Richmond, especially anywhere near downtown...
Hiya, Bec- I think I used to frequent the bar in Centreville you worked at- the Shade Tree? Not sure where else they have karaoke here.

Anyway, we're not limited to Richmond, do you know anything about places in the Mechanicsville area? We're looking at the Wrangler, and I'd like to check out "Wings" in the Doubletree hotel. Does anyone know anything about the Saturday night karaoke scene in those places?

Thanks again!
Wow...yeah I worked at The Shade Tree YEARS ago!

Unfortunately I live south of Richmond, so I don't go out to the Mechanicsville area much. Good luck finding something, but I'm sure The Wrangler should be a good spot.
Hi Matt,
I would suggest that you try Gus' in the Mechanicsville area. I've been there many times over the past few years and like all places crowds come and go, but there always seems to a diverse crowd and some good singers. I also tried the Wrangler a couple of times. The last time we were there on a Saturday night and they had a live band next door. The sound was way to loud. It made the walls and tables vibrate and it was very distracting when someone was trying to sing.
I've had some good times at the Dixie Cafe on Sat night located in Petersburg. Small venue with a diverse crowd.

Can sing at least 4 songs on a Sat night.
Arizona Joe's is a good place on saturday night in Mechanicsville. The Wrangler is good as well. I don't know any other places in Mechanicsville on saturday night. Hope this helps.
I had the best time at Wranglers on a Saturday night..very good mixed crowd and fun people. I am definately going back.
